Social networking
I did my instructions on how to use Punchbowl today. I really like using this site, however I had so much trouble working out how to post a screen caption onto my webpage. I had viewed Jenni Parkers video on YouTube, but still could not get it to work. Luckily after a bit of playing around I was able to figure it out, but I must say I was really frusturated while I was trying to do it. Once I had calmed down and got into the 'swing' of sreen captions and I had alot of success with my social network assignment. I would really like to incorporate a video into my website but so far I am having no luck. I have posted a request on the LMS but am yet to get any replies.
I am really quite proud of myself and how much I have learnt in the 4 weeks since we have started this unit. I love that we are learning all these different technologies to help us teach our future students - incorporating technology with our lesson plan and not just an after thought or 'reward' system.
I was talking to my sons teacher the other day at school, asking her what program/s she used with the smartboard so that I could do it at home, and I was really suprised to find out that she has not used it very much. I though it would be used every week, if not daily. The students are only 5/6 years old so I thought the interaction would help keep their attention focused.
We are using a program in our Mathematics for Teaching unit called HOtmaths, its fantastic! Another really great technology that I am looking forward to using when I start teaching.
I was doing some reading in our textbook Meaningful Learning With Technology, chapter 3 p56-57 and it was talking about virtual worlds. "One of the very best multiuser virtual environments available is Quest Atlantis.Quest Atlantis is a virtual world that was designed to support a variety of learning tasks for 9- to 12-year-old students that are tied to academic standards in a three-dimensional immersive environment."
I am planning of having a play on Quest Atlantis in the next week. Ill keep you posted on what I find out.
