Week 14

This is our last week of semester 1. It has gone so fast, its a bit of a blur. I am very happy to say that (so far) I have enjoyed every aspect of the degree. Jenni put on a class party today which was great! We watched each others power-point presentations today. Some of them were fantastic and really showed the teams personalities. I don't think anyone did really bad, I think we all addressed the criteria and tried our best. Some of the people got a little embarrassed listening to themselves on video, but that's understandable - no one likes that. But its another tool that we have learnt and can hopefully use it in our teaching career.
Jenni went through the marking rubrik for part B of the assignment. There was a lot of discussion on the various criteria, but I think we got throught it all.
After the tutorial Jodie showed me how to use Jing. All I can say is I wish I had of used it at the start of the unit and not in the last class. It is so easy and quick. Definitely a tool that I will be using a lot with future assignments.

My new wiki

I have decided that I am going to make my own personal Wiki to store information and webpages that I get along the course of my degree.

That was really easy! In about 2 seconds flat I have myself a new Wiki that I can start to put all my uni stuff into. I really like this idea as I will be able to access it anywhere there is access to the internet. As a first year student I am sure this will come in handy when I go to prac and first start teaching when I finish my degree.

I was inspired to keep using the Wiki after speaking to Jodie Burrage. She is a 3rd year student and has told me in the past of her web-page book. I have learned from her experience and will endevor to keep up to date with inputting all the websites/information I can while I am at Uni.

Our Wiki is finished and looks great! This was my first taste of teachers work and I really liked it. I am looking forward to learning more about lesson plans and planning a project for my own class. I have learnt a lot about myself and technology doing this assignment. I have found it challenging and really rewarding at the same time.

Week 13

This week our group assignments are due. Chris and Jodie have finalised the power-point presentation and the Wiki. The other members of the group have been asked to proof read it and get back to either of them so they can make the changes. We have decided to make a deadline of Sunday, so Chris and Jodie have time to alter anything. Im really proud of how the Wiki has turned out and the quality of work. I was a little worried that certain people weren't doing enough work (myself included), however I now feel that we all did share the work load, it just didnt seem that way at the end as myself, Jo and Rae werent involved in the Wiki/power-point presentation. Having said that, I think it was a smart move to only have 2 people work on the Wiki, this ensured a 'flow' and not all of us trying to edit at the same time. With 3 of us not preparing the Wiki we were able to proof-read it and eliminate any errors.

Week 12

This week we were supposed to be handing in Assignment 3, however we have been given another week to finalize it. Our group is doing well, all information has been collected and given to Chris and Jodie. I feel as though I have not done a lot in this assignment as I was allocated to only research the topics and get the information. We have decided as a group that Chris would be the one to do all the technological aspects.
In our tutorial today we discussed the Wiki and had a look at how it is progressing. There was some discussion between our group and another in our class. This was really good as we all got to share some ideas and and it backed up to both our group and the other group that we were all doing the correct thing. It is great the variety of topics that everyone is doing for this assignment. Its nice to see everyone's personalities being shown in this assignment.
I have talking to one of the external students about this assignment and she has been saying that its been really challenging to get all her group members together to work through everything as most of them work full-time and have children to look after. I really do not envy the external students as it must be so difficult.

Twitter

I volunteered to do the lesson plan on Twitter for our group Assignment. I have never been worried about having a Twitter account. I was content with just having Facebook (and even that is a pain sometimes). So now I have a Twitter account and I have no idea what Im supposed to do with it.
I have put a question on the LMS asking if anyone uses Twitter for Uni. So far I have only recieved one reply.
I have spoken to Jenni about Twitter and if she has much to do with it. She told me what you do with Twitter - following other people.
I think I will delete my account as Im not too keen on following celebrity figures and people I dont know personaly. If I was to choose between Facebook and Twitter I think Im going to stay with Facebook as it is more interactive and people that I personally know.

Week 11

In our tutorial this week, we spend some time going over the marking rubric for our blogs. I am so glad that Jenni went through this with us, as I tend to write several blogs a week, but I dont take into consideration what we are actually being marked on. I now have the rubric next to me, so hopefully Ill write a better blog.
For the rest of the tutorial we worked on our group assignments. From what I can gather we are going fairly well with the task - a few personality conflicts, but that is to be expected when working with 4 other adults on one project.
Chris has been working on the Wiki this past week. We have decided as a group that while we all have access to the Wiki, only Chris would edit it. This way it will look uniformed.
I am doing my first lesson plan (by myself, I have done one with Rae) this week. My lesson plan includes Twitter, blogs, hyperlinking and embedding a YouTube video.
I have done fairly well (I think), however I am unable to find on the 'Scope and sequence' any information on when students start using the internet as part of their curriculum. I have used our group googledocs page to ask the others in our group if they have found it. Once I have that in my lesson plan, Im done!
Im hoping that tonight I can come back and have another look and hopefully find something. Maybe Im just looking in the wrong area.

Iam typing this blog on my phone. I wanted to see how it would be on a mobile and I must say its not too easy. I can not see all of my typing and the screen has a delay in displaying what iI am tying. I can not select the text to enlarge and change colour to make it look the same as my other blogs. I think this is a good example of the limits of a mobile phone. Certainly prefer to do this on my computer.

On a seperate note, I wanted to delete the photo in the "playstation" blog as I dont know how to reference it, but I cant do this on my phone. I am hoping to be able to get on a computer soon so I can do this as it is breaking copyright restrictions.

Im not sure if this is appropriate, but I have been trying to look at technologies in other places and not just on the internet.
My husband has had a Playstation (PS) since before I met him. The other day he was trying to connect the PS3 to the internet. I had no idea that this was possible and was stoked when he told me that I could 'surf' the internet while sitting on the lounge.
He also showed me the game he was playing (Call of Duty -Modern Warefare 2). I couldnt believe the graphics and how detailed it was. The screen was so clear and the people were so lifelike.
I remember when he was playing the PS and the games would have bigger pixels and not be as lifelife.

Cool tools for schools

I have been looking on the companion website for EDN113 and have finally found the page that my peers have been talking about - Cool tools for schools. I have wanted to do a video on my website and now that I have found this website I will be able to have a play and do one. Im pretty excited about this and am hoping to get it on here asap. Now I just have to work out which program to use.
